Description
The Trinidad & Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS) is a body corporate established on July 8th, 1974 and governed by the authority of the Standards Act No. 18 of 1997. The TTBS operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Trade and Industry. It has a statutory responsibility for the quality of goods and services which are subject to trade in the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, with the exception of food, drugs, cosmetics, and agricultural products. The Implementation Division of the TTBS is responsible for the enforcement of National Compulsory Standards. Items covered by Voluntary Standards which pose a threat to the health and safety of consumers and the environment, whether a standard exists or not, also fall under the purview of the Division.

A Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) is a form of visual inspection which uses video technology to allow the TTBS to inspect various consumer goods from a remote location, without being physically present at the inspection site. Currently, this service does not cover items such as Carbon Steel Bars, Cement, Circuit Breakers, Used Tyres, and Used Electrical Products
